"Amadeus" Chamber Orchestra of the Polish Radio

"Amadeus" Chamber Orchestra of the Polish Radio"
There can be no doubt: The Chamber Orchestra of the Polish Radio is one of the most magnificent ensembles of our time".
The Gazette Montreal (Canada)
"The orchestra ranks among the world's best ensembles of this type. It has a remarkable sound, excellent legato and an unequalled conductor, Ms Duczmal, who combines energy in the way she leads the musicians with stylish elegance and ease not to be found among her British colleagues. Agnieszka Duczmal's primary characteristic is her inquisitive nature which does not let her slide on the surface of the music. She shapes and differentiates phrases with striking originality."

The "Amadeus" Chamber Orchestra of the Polish Radio was founded in 1968 by the conductor Agnieszka Duczmal and originally appeared under the auspices of "Jeunesses Musicales" and Poznań Music Society. In 1976, the Orchestra under Agnieszka Duczmal received the Silver Medal of Herbert von Karajan in the International Encounters of Young Orchestras in West Berlin. The breakthrough came in 1977, when the Orchestra was converted into the regular Polish Radio and Television ensemble, and later - into the "Amadeus" Chamber Orchestra of the Polish Radio. Under Agnieszka Duczmal, the Orchestra gave concerts in Europe, both Americas and Asia, performing with such eminent soloists as Maurice Andre, Gary Karr, Henryk Szeryng, Malcolm Messiter, Martha Argerich, Mischa Maisky, Gheorghe Zamfir, Hakan Hardenberger, Alexandre Rabinovitch, Michela Petri, Guy Touvron, Jeremi Menuhin, Kevin Kenner, Steven Isserlis, Vadim Repin, Krzysztof Jakowicz, Konstanty Andrzej Kulka, Krzysztof Szmyt, Jadwiga Rappe, Piotr Anderszewski, Bernard Ringeissen, Piotr Paleczny, Katia and Marielle Labeque, and others. The "Amadeus" Chamber Orchestra appeared in such famous venues as the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, Musikverein in Vienna, Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, The Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Konserthuset in Stockholm, Beethovenhalle in Bonn, the Munich Philharmonic, the Leningrad Philharmonic, La Scala and the Milanese Conservatory, Palais des Congres in Strasbourg, Pollack Hall in Montreal, Teatro Real in Madrid, Orchard Hall in Tokyo, the Royal Theatre in Brussels, Tivoli in Copenhagen, the National Philharmonic in Warsaw, the Philharmonic in Cologne, and the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome. Every year, the orchestra participates in many music festivals at home and abroad.
Apart from concert activity, the Orchestra regularly appears in recording sessions for the Polish Radio with repertoire from the Baroque to contemporary music (they have already recorded over 7500 minutes of music for the PR). The Orchestra also co-operates with radio broadcasters abroad, including the German NDR, WDR and SFD, the BBC in London, the CBC in Montreal. For the Polish Television, they have made 110 programmes and concert broadcasts, and for the French TV1: more than five hours of recorded music. So far, the "Amadeus" has had 8 LPs and 35 CDs released in Poland, Great Britain, Italy, Germany, Canada, and Brazil.
"The Polish strings from the "Amadeus" Chamber Orchestra descended like a thunderstorm on the audience in the Conservatorio, and their magnetic force, through the energy of varied and fast changing images, compelled them to listen. The vital inspiration of the orchestra is Agnieszka Duczmal, who by means of economical, brisk and well-defined gestures exorcises the audiences with her clarity and suggestiveness. Pure enthusiasm."
